My drivers window would not go up. After taking apart the door panel etc. I found the window motor extremely hot. Confirmed it was getting power 100% of the time driving it down. Pulled the plug, reversed normal polarity and the window went up (therefore the motor wasn't burned out...yet). The window is now in the UP position (which is good for security, weather etc.)

The "auto window" function is faulty.

Is the "auto window" controller only inside the window switch OR is there an outboard controller board that senses when the window is in the fully down position?

Not sure about the auto down window module. A lot of electrical issues can be attributed to broken/damaged wire(s) in the boot between the body and the driver's door. If the window motor is getting 12v all the time then this could be the result of a damaged/broken wire making contact with the metal frame and therefore causing a short.

Here are some good threads to troubleshoot your problem:

Here is a great thread for removing the door panel, thanks to borland for the awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249253

Here is a great thread for checking for broken/damaged wires, thanks to synyster for this awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=270081

Here is a great link for testing the windows, thanks to theofam for this great link Dead Link Removed

Hope this helps out. :salute:
