I have a feeling I know the answer, but I want to verify before I spend money on something that won't work. I need to replace the rear driveshaft - I'm assuming I can use any 99-01 V8 driveshaft on my 00, correct?

U joints went real bad and took a chunk of the yoke with it. I'd love to do the 4406 swap, but I lack the extra money. Plus I'm sure work would appreciate it if I didn't tear apart the interior to cut a hole in the floor :)

Thanks

Any rear driveshaft 97-2001 should be the same, as long as they are AWD V8s.

Thank you. I assumed so, but knowing Ford - there would be some stupid small difference :)

Yeah, the small difference is in the front driveshaft. They are different 96-early 97 and 97-01

I'm having a front driveshaft replaced in my 1997 Exporer V8 AWD by mechanic I've never been to before (because trouble arose 250 miles from my mechanic).

What is the difference 96-early 97 and 97-01. I'm assuming VIN would tell them which of the three but they might have just picked up the phone and searched out an 97 V8 AWD driveshaft...

Also not car knowledgeable. Are there any parts you SHOULD replace when replacing the driveshaft?

Is it an easy install? Could he screw it up? What would I feel if he did something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

need to measure the weld to weld distance then order, as both were used on 97 depending.

If using a used drive shaft, new u joints should be installed.

thanks for the reply.
new driveshaft. hope he ordered AWD not 4WD.

Hopefully he replaces the cv joint of yours with a quality unit instead of cheap remanufactured full shaft.

Make sure to get your stock one back.

Installing one is super easy. I’ve pulled them on the side of the road before. If he’s any kind of mechanic it should be a super easy job. 1 out of 10.

he's replacing front driveshaft. he made no mention of any of the CV joints?

Your front drive shaft will have a u joint and a cv joint.
