Hey! I am lifting my 2000 Explorer XLT (4wd) with a 4" lift from Trailmaster, and I need a new driveshaft. Now, I don't know where to even begin looking for one. Anyone know anything? Also - do I need to buy two, since it's 4wd? Thanks for the help

They say that you "may" need to replace it. Now after I installed my lift, I blew out the "pot" part of the front driveshaft the first time I went wheeling. And I wasnt doing anything big at the time either. I went to a local driveshaft shop and had one made for I think $325 out the door. Now that is pretty darn cheap compared to the one Trailmaster sells for over $600. Plus I went with the dual cardon style instead of the "pot" style that comes stock. The dual cardon style is two u-joints joined together with an adapter. It was funny because the guy that did mine bought that adapter from the same place that makes those adapters for Trailmaster. But as of right now you wont need a driveshaft but if you do any offroading you will find out that you will. Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The rear driveshaft was and is not a problem with me or anyone that I know of. I have had mine on for two years and never experienced any problems with the rear driveshaft.

Call Thurston Spring and see if they extend driveshafts. I know they do steering shafts, so they probably will.

You should be able to find a local shop that will extend a driveshaft for about $150-$200.
