Manual tranny is the only way to go! Better gas milage, less repairs.....much more reliable than ford's A4LD's! With a stick, i also am aware how fast i'm going at all times, and i feel like i'm in more control of the car. Engine braking(like in wet weather) is another puls with a manual...but i will admit hills and heavy traffic can be quite annoying! Long live the manual explorer-i'm no soccer mom!

I love manuals, the sport is my first vehicle with an auto... the first month or so whenever I wanted to stomp on it, the exact opposite usually happened, as I would slam my left foot down on the brake an go 60 to 0 instead of 60 to 100. Made for a couple scary passing attempts on the highway. I like the sport, but dream everyday of how much quicker and funner it would be if it was a 5 speed. I wont make this mistake with my next new vehicle. Plus chicks dig watching you drive the heck out of a manual.

I don't mind traffic, it reminds me that I am in fact, driving, not daydreaming. Eating is a little tricky, but then again, should be focused on DRIVING. I also believe that if you can truely drive a standard transmission, you can shift smotther than most automatics, I know I can when I want to. My poor ranger has153500 on the clock, and 4th is starting to give me trouble, but other than that, stiull works fine.

A man with one arm and no legs could shift better than my automatic. It never shifts up or down when it should and the time between gears is absurd.

...Also, even though i became very good at it before i sold my 94, eating, drinking, talking on cell phone while driving can get complicated...

I'm willing to bet that people who drive sticks are more concerned about how their vehicle gets down the road and what other cars are doing instead of how many cup holders their car has or whether their cell phone is turned on.

Manual Trans - Sport cars and MANLY TRUCKS
Auto Trans - Luxury and family cars.

All I drive is manuals, IH Scout, escort, and X, It can make a average car a little more fun to drive, escort. Everytime I drive my wifes auto Ranger, I find my self search for the clutch when coming to a red light.

I beleive manuals are for true drivers, someone who likes to drive, not just to get from point A to B while on the phone, eating or flipping through CD's. Manuals allow the driver to drive the car, not just guide it.

agree, it's more of a true expeirence:D all three trucks I've owned, have been 5 spds, that's all my mom drives. Auto's are just boring

Fixed. :D

While both vehicles I've owned have been autos, (and underpowered), I definitely like the amount of control you have over the vehicle with a stick. Everyone in my family's got an auto, and so one night at Muskrat's house I jokingly told him I was going to drive his truck, and he tossed me the keys and said "Go ahead". I replied, "I don't know how to drive stick" and he just said "Learn."

And I did. And it was good.

My .02.

hell yeah, and the truck is still on the same clutch:D

the 5R55E in our explorer was the what made me decide on the manual for my Jeep (well that and the fact that the manual was a 5 speed and the auto was a 3 speed). Our 5R55E died at 75,000 miles and cost Ford a pretty penny to replace (God bless extended warranties).
I feel out of place in an auto now.
