Hey everyone and thanks for looking.

Recently i bought a 95 explorer xlt and was told when i bought it that it needed a fuel pump replaced. The reasoning behind this is he said that on hot days, or after driving it for a while it will drop to almost no idle, chugging and wanting to die, but will not die. I have had it happen a couple times and to solve the problem you just have to keep your foot on the gas a little to keep the rpms up. To me it dosnt sound like a fuel pump, sounds like a vacume leak to me. I mean even when its dropped idle, it wont stall or chugg except at idle, can gas it hard and it responds without any hesitation. Any ideas will be great, again thanks for looking.

Vac leak, throttle position sensor, mass air-flow sensor. All possible candidates.

No trouble starting up? Seems like that's the main issue if it's a vac leak.

Being it's an idle issue, I'd start by looking at the idle control valve.

Don't forget the fuel filter and the fuel pump regulator.

I agree with all previous suggestions, in addition....

I would say start by check the IAC valve, then run a fuel pressure test and a vacuum test and see how they come up that should point you in a general direction to continue the trouble shooting.

Oh also clean the MAFS, it's cheap and easy and I have seen it cause weird idle problems.
