Got about a mile into a local drive and the dreaded OD OFF light started flashing. After my butthole unclenched, I noticed that the gear selector was between D and 2. I popped it into D, and kept on driving.

Truck drove fine the rest of the ride home (another 3mi), except the decelerating downshifts were harsh. I assume this was the PCM jacking the line pressure to the ****. I didn't have my code reader with me, so I disconnected the battery to clear everything and start fresh.

Hoping I didn't damage anything...these 4R70s are tough as nails. Anyone else ever do this before?

I had this happen on my truck the transmission guy told me if you let off the gas in between gears and then reapply at the exact right time it will give you an OD flash harsh shifts reset the battery and it goes away something similar is happening here
Imo

I think you nailed it

Shifting like butter after the reset, no issues whatsoever, no codes
