98 4r70w hard to put into gear, floating between gears...

My 98 explorer with a 4r70w had been hard to shift into gears for a while... seems like a stiff cable...... also the indicator needle for the gears has been off....
so when you are in one gear.... he shows you are in another....

Now.... When i put the truck in park... it doesnt always go into park.... the truck will roll forward or backwards, and wont start because its not in park....

Also, I cant put the truck in 1st gear.....

What i am wondering is... whats causing this? is it and internal adjustment? or im guessing more its an external adjustment on the side of the tranny or under the dash??

I plan on looking at it this weekend, but just wanted to hear from others who have had this problem or know exactly where the adjustment is?

You could have the shifter bracket loose at the steering column. Also the prindle cables break where it bolts to the column.
