well as in my other thread, im doing the dana 44 swap, and right now im in the rebuild the dana 44, but right now im on the front brakes,
since i have a eb d44 it has drum brakes, what could i do to make the stock drum brakes a little better? i will be doing the brake disk conversion just not right away,

what should i get for the 30 yr old drum brakes to make the stop like new again?

it will only be driving this way for a month tops, but would having 37's and drum brakes be unsafe? even if it was only for a month or so?

You can get them machined so their true round and uniform inside. It will take all the glazing off that can will cause brake fade.

new pads and spring kit

will i just be able to hook my my brake lines, or will it more invlode then that??

Springs are easy..Just remove the outer most spring first and then reinstall in reverse order. When you look at them you will notice the methode needed. The only thing is that if your gonna use needle nose pliers and screw drivers, it will be a bit tricky hooking the spring. I don't know if your lines will just fit the cylinder. Might have to bend new lines possibly. Bending tools are cheap, but the flaring tool is at least $20.

dont even think about using the stock drum brakes, the disk conversion can be done for about 120, a good drum rebuilt will cost near that. Plus, the EB drums were meant for a much smaller/lighter vehicle with stock size tires. Running front drums is begging for a crash, you will need to absolutly stand on the brakes to stop. WHat happens if you need to stop in a hurry? the drum brakes wont be able to do it. Its not worth your life or the lives of others to risk it to try and save a few pennies.

Just wait a few months to do the swap and do it right the first time. You'll be glad you did.

How did you do a disk brake swap for $120? I had that in just rebuilt calipers brake pads. Not counting rotors wheel bearings seals. I want to know where you are getting your parts so I can start shopping there as well.

I work in a 4x shop, owner has close friends at a junkyard and NAPA. ;)

Please dont drive it with drums up front.

Your Explorer master cylinder is set up for discs, and has no residual pressure thingy for front drums. This will make braking squirly on top of the fact they are drums. The front drums when new and set up good are complete **** on an early Bronco with 33's, which is alot lighter than your explorer with 37's. If you try this, you're going to have an accident because its not going to stop.

Please understand i am not this forum's resident safety nazi- its very rare that i make a post like this. However, i have alot of experience with EB front drums and im dead serious when i tell you that your rig is not going to stop and you are going to get hurt.
