Newbie here and need some help. 2004 Sport Trac with 65K miles. I recently have been getting a high pitched squeal like a belt slipping, but louder. Last week it stalled while driving and showed DTC P0320. It will start but I still get the squeal for short time after startup and occasional stalling and running rough. I pulled the crankshaft position sensor and there is a groove worn in it about 3/4 inch wide and 1/4 inch deep with the copper showing through. I think this is the cause of the squealing. I have pictures if that will help.
1) Is this normal? I think not.
2) If not, what caused it? It did not appear loose.
3) If not, will it happen again with a new sensor?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

After further examination, I found the source of the problem. The harmonic balancer had separated and the outer pulley moved aft grinding into the crank position sensor. This caused the P0320 code. Fortunately, no damage to the A/C lines or anything but the sensor. The balancer problem seems pretty common and is well documented in this forum, along with the repair procedure.
