so im finally goin for a new exhaust when i get paid on friday and im thinking of dual 3 or 3.5" tips flared out at the back (not straight back) and 2.5 inch piping from the cats back

what muffler(s) should i go with ..im looking for a deeeeep but not necessarily loud sound...i want it to be noticed but my main focus is i want a deep, really low pitched sound not the higher pitched rumble

the shop said they could order me 3 or 4 mufflers of my choice and slide each one on before welding to see what each will sound like and pick the best i just dont really know what to get..

right now ima say :
flowmaster 40 ( idk what one though...delta flow etc)
magnaflow

and then idk what

any ideas

i hear the 70 series is the quietest flowmaster.

those are big tips you thinking of getting. I got 2 1/2 inch tips and i got dual 40 series flowmasters.

40 series is the loudest flowmaster but if u want something quieter get the 70 series flowmaster.

i got a

40 series DELTA FLOW...

i like it... it might not be as deep as you want it with a stock intake, but with an aftermarket CAI, they sound

i would do the flowmaster 40 with dual in dual out. a guy by my house has his ranger setup like that when he is cruzin it actually sounds alot like a v8. i thought he swapped the motor at first but nope 4.0 in it. it is pretty deep sounding but a bit loud

i have a magnaflow on mine and i like the sound. its deep and sounds aggressive. i havent heard a 40 series in person though.

How much more would that cost to get true duals over single in dual out

A deeper sound and a better look... When I said not loud I meant I don't want it sound like a huge jacked up fullsize or something it's not....

well scrap the duals..juststopped by the shop and ima have to ditch my spare if i got em.. I was thinking I could get em In there since I got the 3" body lift but it's still tight

So I'm gonna go with a single in single out.. Still taking ideas though

the shop mine went to they ran it close to the rear suspension right by the rear coilover towers my spare tire is still there just have to get a heat shield for safe sake. i wish i could post a pic but i dont have any. you would hav to have the exhaust turn out right behind the rear tires. just take a look and you should be able to see it. its tight but not impossible mine is still on there i had the shop run 2.5 inch piping stock there is about 1-2 inches of clearance between the body and frame with my BL it gave it plenty of room.

well depending on how much hes gonna charge me i might still do it ...he just basically gave me the "its gonna be expensive" impression when he was giving me my options..

also how much of a difference does two pipes even make for a single in double out...if its not really a difference im gonna save some money and just go single/single

just a question and im not try to dis anyone who has a V6 but what are you gaining well i guess power but in my opinion all V6 sound not so nice im really not trying to dis you guys i have V8 an im gonna just do true dual strait pipes i think...Too loud? any opinions or suggestions the last thing ill say is i have a 2002 lincoln ls with a 3.9 v8 an its true dual strait an it sounds amazing its just hard to make a v8 no sound nice. o one more thing do you gain much mpg with the 4.0 from what ive heard they similar on mpg as the v8 to each his own tho i guess hell i love my explorer just lookin to make it less soccer mom ish

I actually agree with you I hate having the v6 and I hate that it's nearly impossible to get to sound good.. That's why I want deep not necessarily loud

find out how much he i gonna charge you to do duals cuz the guy that did mine including the muffler running tru duals and getting rid of the 3rd cat was only $350 idk how much shipping would be but if its like 600 i would say just hold off till i get back and ill have him bend a second set that matches mine even with shipping it should be way less then 600 or so. idk if the exhaust is the same for the 6 to the 8 but if it saves some cash it might be worth it.

oh yeah only about 11 months till im back so

i thinka 6 can sound good as long as you dont floor it cruzing they dont sound too bad

do you think if i remove the last cat i guess ive never really took a close look how many cats are there will i set of sensors removing it? I like that mean V8 roar an with the bigger tires i think it will look an sound little less i dono soccer mom ish.

there are 3 cats on the 3rd gens. 2 cats coming off the exhaust manifolds then a "h" pipe then cat then muffler and out the rear. you would be suprised how much room you have under there after you get rid of the cat and the huge stock muffler. i had enough room to mount my second battery under there.
