i wanted to put a new cat back exhaust on my 98 4.o sohc explorer sport. but one that i was looking at was a exhaust that had two tail pipes comming from the muffler and i wasnt sure if i would actually lose horse power by putting that on, keep in mind the only mods that i will have is a air intake and thats about it for now.

Go with a custom 2.5" single catback with a high-flow muffler of your choice. You won't be disappointed.

I agree. No headache about duals and you'll like the performance.

anybody know how routing for duals is done? looks pretty cramped towards the rear where the 2nd pipe would run.

either cut the heat shield or use the flowmaster SUV that has 2 ins and 2 outs. maybe not something you want to hear, but duals on a V6 is a waste of time. you get better hp&torque with a single. if you have to have duals, get a muffler that is single in dual out. that way you really have a single but with dual exits.

james T i how does that work...how is still a single with a dual out .....and you wont loose hp? sorry about the dumb question i just dont understand it

the muffler has a single inlet- as in your exhaust runs single until it gets in the muffler. then, the muffler splits it (internally) and it has 2 outlets. you run your exhaust from there. therefore, you have an actual single exhaust system (good for a V6) that has dual outlets (if that is the style system you really want).

stock 4.0 SOHC is dual in single out, and I was looking for a good muffler for that. I wanted a flowmaster 40 series but they dont seems to make one. Anyone got any suggestions. Looking for sound and performance on a 4.0 V6 SOHC? Thanks
Gary

If you are interested in how the pipes are run for duals, click the link in my sig and there are a few pics in one of those albums showing the pipes.
