Yo guyz,
Subject says it all, i am plannin to go in a day or 2 and hook up exhaust for the Xplorer... so whats the deal..
I have the 98 V6 SOHC. SHould I go with the 40 series or 50 series, and then should I do single exit or do the dual, (Not True dual). I am thinking i am gonna use 2.25" pipin.... dont think the v6 needs any bigger. I want something that sounds pretty throaty, however not somehting thas gonna rock my neighboorhood ya know. HORSEPOWER is def a good thing also but i think both would provide that Thanx Guyz

I got the 50 series Delta Flow. I sounds great but I should have gone with the 40 Delta. I chose the Delta because I do alot of highway driving and the Delta cuts the interior noise down quite a bit.

Hide sight I should have gotten the 40 Series Delta flow because I wish my 50 was a bit louder.

The 50 does turn heads but the 40 would have snaped a couple!

As far as dual or single. My suggestion would be so spend the money on a really good single. Instead of duals. I'm not really sure myself on the benifits of Duals over Singles.
I known that price would an issue. One extra Muffler, the pipes, the extra labor, & the possibility of more things to bend/brake. If it's not for you just keep asking.

That is just my pocket change! Good luck!

just recently instaled a series 40 deltaflow. it has a nice mellow sound at about 1,500 revs, but then seems to get quieter above that... dunoo, haven't had anyone else drive the truck so i can hear it from outside... but it sounds nice without scaring the women and children.

I have a 98 SOHC Sport, and I just got a 50 Series non-Delta flow dual in single out put on about 2 months ago. I went with this muffler because I wanted it to be louder than a Delta, but still driveable on the highway. It sounds really good, but the interior volume is a bit much around 3000 RPM. At about 55 MPH though you can hardly tell it's there. All in all, it's probably the most worthwhile $200 I've ever spent.

For the motors that are in the X, the single is quite sufficient. If you open it up too much, you will lose bottom end torque. One 2.25" pipe works just fine.

since you dont want to wake up the whole neighborhood, i say go with a 50.....they are decent quiet but louder than stock... and 2.25" pipe is good....

if it matters, i have stock pipe into a flowmaster non-delta 40...it has 2.25" pipe exiting 6" then it just dumps....it wakes up peolpe in the next neighborhood.....

2.5 " straight pipe no muffler from the 2nd cat back.

that will eat all of your torque....that is very little backpressure... probably too litle....

?

Would a single flowmaster 40 deltaflow muffler with single exit be that loud? To keep interior noise down, would it help out if i dynomatted the interior?

Dynomatting can always help! I noticed a huge difference....Infact, I may add a 2nd layer for even less road noise. As for my exhaust? Soon it'll be true duals, from my nice 5.0 in my 91, sporting hi-flo cats, and 40 series 2 chamber mufflers...Damn! That'll sound beautful!

a 40 delta is probably about the same as a 50 non delta.......

that's what i'm running and its prety quiet, even with the shortened pipe that turns out in front of the rear wheel. not loud at all, even with the windows down.

I talked it over with the guy at the performance shop. we looked under my truck and found a huge resinator and 2 cats. trust its more than enough back pressure.

Only 2 cats? You're lucky... My 98 5.0L has four cats... Why on earth Ford put four cats on the Xplorer will probably never be known. It's not like its a LEV or ULEV, especially with the V8. Ford also put 2.25" true duals all the way back to the muffler. This sounds good but then the muffler knocks it down to one non-mandrel bent 2.25" for the rest.
