Just seeing how many of you out there have dual exhaust as in exiting each side of the bumper. I made one for mine (I work at a exhaust shop) and I'm thinking of running true duals with a hand made X-pipe which I will more likely do since I do get bored at work sometimes when its slow.

Yeah something like this is worthless without pics. I am interested in seeing this as well.

I'll get some pics asap. It was pretty easy since I didn't have to worry about suspension travel because of the irs and it clears the spare tire. The only thing is the bends, both pipes go up through where the stock pipe goes. Also you are limited in pipe size because of that, I used 2 1/4 pipe 2 1/2 would be pushing it. So far it looks like I'm the only one who's done this so far.

i got single in and dual out 40 series flowmasters on my 01 sport.

they are 2 1/2 inch tips

I would have to say you are fine with 2 1/4 since you are now running dual so only four cylinders are pushing through each side.

I've done the Magnaflow res and muff replacement on the stock 2.5" piping but have been considering a full 3" from the down pipe to the tips as it seems as efficient and easier to run through the tight spots over the rear axle than two 2.5s. This would naturally require a different muffler, but I think front to back it would flow more than current.

yeah post them pics

I realize this is old, so if I don't get an answer I can start a new thread... anyway since the 4.6L is the same motor as the mustang could you put in a mustang h or x pipe then dual muffler & cat back? anyone done this or similar..

I see a lot of 'duals' but most don't become dual till after the muffler?

The problem with true duals on Sport Tracs is clearance around the fuel tank on the right side, transfer case and crossmember, and the rear suspension. Easiest would be a single-in dual-out muffler but you've got to cross a tailpipe to the right side at some point and the driveshaft is in the way. I'm not saying it's impossible but it won't be easy either.

These should have had duals from the factory but I guess it was as much a problem for ford as us with clearance. I don't know what happened with the guy who started this thread if he did it or not.

Like I said, you could probably figure a way, I just don't know if it would be worth the effort and expense. A single-in dual-out muffler might work with both exhaust pipes exiting on the left, but man, it's still gonna be tight around the rear suspension. I had to tinker with mine for a few days after installation until just the single 2.5" pipe didn't hit anything. Upside, on a Gen 2 the driveshaft doesn't move. Gibson offers both a single and a dual system for 4.0 Rangers and they claim better torque and hp gain with the single. Nowhere on the passenger side to put a muffler because it's full of gas tank.

hmm sounds good, I was hoping I could just get a mustang X or H pipe and cat back..

I'll have to look under there, if you have too many bends it defeats the purpose.. a single in dual out would be better in that case..

it's really odd they put in that 3V motor and single exhaust..

Also I'm wondering if there are any negaitve impacts (torque or 4x4 performance) of dualing it out?

Just sayin'.... A V8 application may be different.

I am looking at all ways to increase mileage. I have heard from a friend that with a Performance exhaust on his F150 he gained an additional 4-6 mpg and also more HP. Is this a better option to do? I cannot find anything about cold airintake on 08 Sports Trac also.
