dual shock question

ok i know i might get $h!t for this one, but why run two front shocks on each wheel?

(i was looking at pics and noticed a few was like that)

As shocks are used they build heat.. If your doing wash/prerunning etc your shocks will get hot.. Bigger (more fluid) shocks can handle the heat better. Adding a 2nd shock allows the heat to be spread across multiple shocks...

Another reason.. if your using really really soft springs the 2nd shock can help you keep the suspension under control.

Sway bar? whats that? We haven't had sway bars since before we ever put the lift on.. and still don't run them (front or rear) with very soft front and rear springs.. Makes for some interesting driving

i was checking that site out, is Bronco II items the same as Explorers? lol ive heard of sway bars on a ricer, is why i was asking about them, oh yeah talking about shocks, i bought nitrogen shocks, are they better then normal gas shocks?

Explorer, Bronco and Rangers are very close on the front end for many years...

We run a Duff kit that has been modified over the years... We were looking at using dual shocks but instead we went with f-250 mounts and installed 12" travel shocks which have really big cans which helps keep them cool.

yeah i got lost on that one, lol, this is a first lift for me, im used to drop em (ricers), now im trying to lift it

...I wouldn't advise putting dual shocks on your first lift myself...There are some things that will get you into safety trouble if you don't know what to look for such as turning...If your shocks aren't set up correctly you will push your calipers in and then have brake fade, no brakes...

...If you don't "cycle" your whole front end and install your shocks perfectly, you will get binding and breakage, and possibly one shock working more which would defeat the dual shock idea...

yeah i wasnt going for nothing huge, its the family car... short kids havta get in it, lol. just wanted to push it to the stock limits, so 2 in front (trying to at least, being told now not to go with the coil spacers) aal and warrior shackles in the rear with new shocks and a 3 in bl coming at tax time, i just seen in a lot of the pics that ppl had two shocks and steering stabilzer, seen one had 2 sets on each side in the back etc... didnt know what all i really needed with what im getting ready to do

...The best thing you can do is go thru the trucks in my thread and find what they have done, what was the pros and cons, and decide for yourself what you want to do as in, building it, and what would be the most cost effective for future upgrades...

Back in the day more shocks= more dampening and control, my old school autofab kit has 3 shocks on the front and drive great, however in this day and age you can purchase 1 real shock and it will do the trick. By real, names like pro-comp, rancho, skyjacker and superlift need not apply, Rancho has some decent stuff out there, but look at brands like King, Sway-a-way F-O-A and Fox for the true shocks that can be tuned to your liking.

yeah i agree so far with everyone that posted, no as far as steering stabilizers i mut say that it should have been done at the factory since all rbv(ranger based vehicle's) have substantial bumpsteer and the occasional death wobble at 90mph.But hey not everyone drives the trails and hit 90 on the way home.

I removed my sway bar and the dual shocks help control the soft springs. Both shocks are Rancho RS9000XL's and they are on setting 4 of 9.
