what the hell is the difference between AWD and 4WD???

AWD is full time four wheel drive that can only be turned off with the brown wire mod.

4WD has a switch on ur dash. 4wd auto, 4 hi and 4 low.

AWD is full time four wheel drive that can only be turned off with the brown wire mod.

AWD can't be turned off. AWD powers all four wheels of a vehicle at all times. Due to the lack of low range, AWD vehicles are less capable off-road than 4WD vehicles, but work fine on-road.

Explorers & Moutaineers with the 5.0 are the only ones that have the AWD transfer case.


Full time 4wd (Control-Trac) is not the same as AWD because you still have 4-Lo range.
