if you have PATS (passive anti-theft system) you will need to get the key from ford and have them program the car's computer for it.

I bought my spare keys off Ebay and had no Problems, To program the key (PATS) you will need two original keys, If you have only one key, you will have to get Ford to program it.. :)

This method works on all Keys.. http://www.fordf150.net/howto/patskey.php

I just bought a 1999 XLT. Great condition and a good price, knocked $500 off the already haggled price because the seller only had 1 key and 1 remote.

Bought 2 keys and 1 remote from E-Bay for $30 USD inc carriage to Canada. Key cutting at local locksmith $10. Reprograming PATS Key $45.

Thanks to Brooklyn and all others for your replies to questions about my now deceased 1992.

Anyone who wants a slightly rusted 92 that will only go backwards. $500 Canadian and take it away.

Wasn't it expo5.0 that programmed his new key only using 1 key just by doing the key programming twice with the same key? I guess it is time to do some searching. Be careful with the ebay keys because the chips are not as good as the Ford chips. My ebay key would not let the truck start when it got too hot.

Found it, it was black magic. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68728
