DVD Player / Double Din Dash Kit – Explorer 2012

Hi,

I have an Explorer XL 2012. I’m looking to install a front DVD player.

I was looking around but it seems there’s no double din dash kit available yet for the Explorer 2012 XL. Is that right?

Any ideas/suggestions?

There may never be a kit available. The explorer has the majority of the hvac and diagnostics systems integrated into the head unit. Replacing it would be a huge undertaking (at least with vehicles that have my ford touch, I assume the non-MFT vehicles will be very similar in terms of integration though)

Video In Motion offers a kit that allows your AV in to work while, obviously, you're in motion. Although its probably not the safest solution, if you're looking for something for your passenger to use on long trips that might be it. Please though, try to concentrate on the road when the action soundtrack starts.

That would be illegal here and I'm sure in many U.S. jurisdictions as well. Not to mention that it would be very unsafe if the screen is viewable by the driver. If you were ever involved in an accident I'm sure your insurance company would have something to say about it. It would be much better to install it for the second or third row occupants.
