Does the 16 sport have a dvd drive?
Can't seem to find the info on that but if you look at the Radio it seems to show a DVD slot.
Oops, should have said a slot for a CD, not a DVD.

They are CD players not DVD players.

What if you get the dvd head rest option? Would the dvd play on the mft screen when the car is parked?

New owner with DVD question

I will be a new owner of a 2016 Platinum Explorer next week. This is the first vehicle I have that does not have a DVD player for our twins. In many of our previous cars I have been able to either program or buy a accessory that will allow you to watch a DVD while underway on the nav screen. Is anyone aware of such a thing for this vehicle? Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the Forum Brian.:wavey:
In addition to it being illegal to have movies playing on the MFT screen while driving, the screen does not have the best resolution for that. Why not just get the DVD players that attach to the headrests. It would be easier to watch as well since I'm guessing the twins are not sitting up front. Have you checked out this thread for options?

since it is technically illegal to certify a car that plays video in the viewing sight of the driver while in forward motion - I can't imagine any new car will play a video in the forward screen while the car is moving. (not sure when the rule took effect)

rear video cam is allowed because it's a driveability aid. Forward parking cam is allowed for the same reason - note it only comes on under like 10Mph or something.

side cams - same thing usually while parking only, or like in reverse.

playing a movie is a no go. Granted there might be mods that allow for video on the go I can't image a manufacturer enabling that at day one.

Why not buy 2 $99 tablets with 2 headrest mounts and load movies onto them (exactly what I do for my 2 and 5 year old). Much cheaper option then DVD headrests and also cheaper then being ticketed for watching on your front screen which as Peter said is illegal.

But to answer your question, yes there is an option.. not worth the money or the risk IMO. I've considered it for one reason, to be able to have my rear camera on at all times when plowing private property.

Thanks for all of the advice.....It appears that the Nav System in the dash does not have a DVD player so there is no way I will be able to play up front. I have a couple of options and was looking for some help. 1) If there is a jack in the glove box I could plug a portable DVD player into the jack and with the addition of a Lockpick Module watch DVD's on the go. 2) Go the route that most suggest and buy tablets for the rear seats. I don't like wires all over and wondering if anyone knows what brand provides a nice clean installation. Thanks again

I forget the options but did your's come with the built in screens for the rear seats. I know some cars have this, some do not. I wasn't interested in the explorer purchase but if you're has it there is probably a hidden player.

Now -

What I do - I bought an android tablet that I load with movies that I've ripped from disc or downloaded. IE put the moves on the memory card on the tablet and presto easy peasy movie player - I then have a strap system that will hold it to the back of the seat. (headrest)

If you need 2 - well sky's the limit on cost but I got some last gen galaxy S tablets on the cheap.

The other thing I almost bought - Philips and a few other companies made these portable DVD players that do what you want to do - they are often less than 140 for 2 screens. Their gimick however is one screen is dumb - it is a mirror for the main player. IE both have to play the same thing. If that is not a deal breaker - this is your easy entry route. Target, Best buy, etc all sell these.

If you need 2 seperate players - most of the companies that make the twin screen devices - sell the single player kit for say 30% less. SO 95 vs 140.

But you'll need to cart the discs with you.

That said - I know a guy with said devices - that writes discs to use. He says that works great. The tablets I use - play the videos fine, I can update them over home wifi if I want - and they have games as needed.
