Got everything ready for my inspection and made an appointment. Then I realized I forgot to check the emergency brake, and low and behold it doesn't hold the vehicle. When I depress the pedal you can hear the brake working but it won't hold the vehicle, and the pedal will go all the way to the floor quite easily.

It got dark so I didn't have time to look into it, but is there any type of adjustment to the cable inside the wheel. I've only got until noon to get it fixed and I know nothing about them. It's a 97 AWD. Any advice would be appreciated.....

If nothing has seized, you might be able to adjust them. The parking brakes are "drum brakes" inside the rotors. On the backplate of the wheel there is a removable rubber rubber plug. Take out the plug and there is a star wheel that can bee turned to tighten them up. Like I said earlier, if the moving parts are seized or the pads are shot, it won't help. There is a thread posted that shows the parking brake parts and replacement procedure. Here is the thread. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147823&highlight=parking+brake The photos don't appear til lower on the page

Thank you for the link....
