Hello I just installed a set of e3 plugs. The thing is it's not running right. Horrible idle, won't get up and go etc. I am wondering if this is the plugs or if a plug fouled? I have gone through 5 times checking the wires and I pulled one wire and started it up for all cylinders, 1 cylinder wouldn't let me start the engine while the rest let me start the engine and it really didn't run any different than it's running when their all connected. So I think something is wrong with one of the cylinders. Tommorow I am going to swap back out, any suggestions till then?

Check your wiring to make sure you have the right wires to the right cylinders. With the engine running you can touch the manifold next to the exhaust port with a crayon (or if you have one of those fancy laser thermometers) you will be able to see which cylinder is running colder. Pull that plug and check it, could be that wire is grounding out too.

Can't remember which member suggested the crayon, read it a couple days ago.

I actually have an update. I went out and switched the drivers side with the original plugs, started it up and it was still bogged out. So I kept changing them out but I dropped an old plug in the recess of the engine so I had to leave on e3 in. I started it up and it ran just like it did with the originals, so I think I narrowed it down to something going on with the back two passenger plugs. Tommorow I am going to change them out one by one and see if I can get all the e3s in there.

I hope your experience with E3 plugs is better than mine.

Good Luck.

Cheers

I tried the e3's a while back and like you said had horrible idle and mid range sucked, but wide open that was sweet.... i installed those along with JBA 10mm wires... changed out the e3's fop other plugs, cant remember what kind.. Just recently installed a Screamin Demon coil so i may try the e3's out again and see what happens

E3's went back for some Autolite's. Problem fixed. Unless I had wrong size e3's they will not work with my X. I can see the fuel savings as I couldn't get my truck to redline unless I was on the freeway. It took at least 5 seconds to go 35, so yeah if that is truely how their supposed to work they'll save you gas and waste your time. Autolite's have my truck running as good as before. With the E3's installed it felt like I was burning my motor up or a cylinder or two wasn't working. I checked the length of E3 versus old plug and Autolite, the E3 has both plugs beat by 3 or 4mm. The guy at Oreilly thought it could have been a short thread long thread isssue, when compared both thread types had same length plug but E3 was still 3 to 4mm longer.

All in all I have to say E3 sucks.

Sorry you just found out the hard way why standard platinum autolite or motorcraft plugs are recommended for 1st gens.

Sweet idea! Thank You!

Wish I could remember who to give the credit too... I stole it.

As far as plugs go, use what the manufacturer recommends and you can't go wrong. I spend way too much for Splitfire plugs back in the day for my stang and all I got was the ability to point out to people that I wasted lots of extra money at the time.
