While i don't have E85 around here (that i know of) my V8 (per the owners manual) does not mention that i CAN use it.

Ford is "marketing" e85 in their "free gas" ads, but it's a small % for has that are e85 right now.

Yea I just don't understand why Ford would have Flex Fuel engines in their 2002 - 2005 Explorers abd then when E85 finally starts to become more popular they drop it for 2006. Really a dumb dumb move - no wonder the Japaneese are winning.
Go figure.

As I understand it from Ford's website, the 2006 Explorer is not set up to use E85. Where I live, there is a E85 plant about 30minutes from my home, and many gas stations which have E85 pumps. Currently around here E85 is about at about $2.49 a gallon.

Older models of the Explorer were about to run on E85. I do not understand why this option is not offered. I understand it would cost Ford about $150.00 per engine to make it E85 on the production line.

I guess they figure it is not offered at enough places around the country to make this worth while.

GM seems to to putting it on alot of their vehicles, as is Dodge. Will Ford follow suit?

In my opinion Ford is really dropping the ball here. E85 is just starting to take off in the US. There are new refineries currently being built and the fuel is starting to be sold at more and more places.
Lets hope they have the forsight to offer flex fuel in their 07 Explorers.
GM is offering several flex fuel engines in their 06 line up and they will probably sell alot of them.

Is the 06 Munstang GT able to run E85? Maybe it has do do with some internal components of the 4.6 L

Glad I ran across this thread as I have been trying to figure out if the '06 can suck E85. Now I know. Bummer, as I wanted to give it a try.

Remember that E85 is ~10% cheaper, but your MPG will drop 10-15%. So at this price-point it is a 'Feel Good' exercise.

It may not remain cheaper for long, demand will drive up prices considerable and result in higher food prices as well. You'd be lucky to only see MPG decrease by 10 - 15% too. Not making me feel particularly good about it at all.

You should also look at some of EB Cornburner's other threads as well as he is one the forum's E85 experts.

Here's a site that debunks a lot of the pricing myths we are hearing as well...

Yes, some good info there to consider. But, it is clearly only one side of the story, the side of those who stand to profit from increased demand for corn. Hence, I would take it with a grain of salt. Which is, coincidentally, how I like my corn!

There is only so much arable land to produce corn and our appetite for fuel is voracious. Basic economics says demand drives pricing. Anyone who says differently should be considered with some skepticism.
