Dumb question I'm sure, but how do I determine whether my 97 5.0 is a late or early model. I'm pretty sure I have an early model, because although its a 97, the production date is late 96, but I want to make sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

in 97 they went to the P heads mid year, is this what you are looking for?

If you look at the head itself, pass side, very front of it you will see a P cast into it.
We can also tell by your EGR system.

Does your EGR have a tube coming from the exhaust manifold onthe pass side or no?

So if i DO NOT have a p head then I have an early model?? I actually just pulled my egr valve, and didnt notice anything leading to the exhaust manifold (is that what your talking about). I'm actually just trying to figure out because on rockauto there are different rear windshield wipers for early and late models 97s and I think it also applies to a few other things, but I cant think of them off the top of my head. Does anyone know the months that apply to early model as opposed to late model. (ie: early model Jan-Mar 97, late model april-dec 97). Theres got to be an easy way to tell?!?

Looking with a flash light on the front of the head isn't hard. If it has a P, you have a newer one. Also the glass wouldn't matter because it didn't change until 98. The 91-97 rear glass are the same.

If you dont have the metal tube from the pass side exhaust manifold to the EGR valve you have the non P head GT-40 engine, an early 97
