Just checked my gas mileage im gettin in my explorer. I am gettin just about 15 MPG flat on the 4.0L V6, but im seeing a lot of you people getting insanely higher then that! I have no modifications or anything at this point.

Most of my driving is around or under 50 miles an hour. I know i need a new Oxygen sensor, which could be a root to some of the problems. Just looking for some quick and easy/cheap tips to help with the whole gas mileage situation. thanks!

How do you know you need an O2 sensor?

Take a look at the following thread for gas mileage tips and tricks:

Good luck ......

IMHO..............I'd change out the sensor.

That being said............there is another thread, where the guy reported having a bad sensor code, but seeing no adverse gas usage w/ his bad sensor.

So, like anything..............it's your call.

Do you believe that the sensor is the cause of the bad MPGs?

Aloha, Mark

yeah i took it in to get a sensor check, and the guy that checked it said that on explorers and my mileage (140k), its common to see the oxygen sensor go bad. He said he reccomended i change it out when i get a chance, but the only real threat it had at the moment was damaging my gas mileage. my lift kit is on its way, so i plan to do all the maintenence i need to when i do the installs, figuring im working on it anyways.
