So usually one a week I troll ebay looking for explorer goodies., and for a while now I've been wondering if any of the alleged performace chips are actually good. This one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18HP...33598QQitemZ8068382235QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW just seems to be a resistor plugged into the IAT connector. Is that good? Does it actually give more power? Would this be a dirty way to bypass the IAT sensor and put on a new intake without messing with any of the IAT sensor stuff, therefore putting a new intake on cheaper? And if this is all good and all, can't I just go down the street to radioshack and get a resistor for a buck?

Do a search.. This topic has been discussed many many times before. They don't work. I suggest getting a custom chipped burned for your vehicle from one of our vendors. If you look in the vendors section there is a list of who sells them.

garbage. Move on.

April fools?

I hate those damn things. I discovered they don't work to well on mine, or my friends. We looked at each other and sulked.
End of story.

send me the $4 and i will send your truck an electronic mail file from my home computer allowing your truck to operate with as much performance gain as you will get from those chips

It's a frick'n Resistor you can get at Radioshack for 68Cents.

It's my understanding that the IAT sensor is basically like a thermister which varies its resistance with temperature change so it can tell the ECU how dense the air is that is coming into the engine (cold = dense, hot = less dense) correct? The resistance that is varied is measured in ohms, like a speaker. So by bypassing the IAT and sticking in a cheap resister their goal is to trick the ECU into thinking there is always cold air coming in and telling it to send more fuel. I have tried this with various resistors and the only thing that I found was that it made my truck barely start. The IAT is there for a reason. Ford wouldn't spend the money on it if it wasn't. It's rediculous what some people try to sell on Ebay these days. Next is the high-performance spark plug valves, ultra-duty gas cap, and the 25+ hp stickers...
