ECM Codes / CEL light

Hey guys,

Ok, I'm new to THIS forum (actually ventured into a domestic forum!) but I'm quite familiar with online forums, I'm a Mod at a online Civic's Club. Yes thats right.... No slamming me for supporting the imports, I have a perfectly legit reason for being here - I'm going to need your help.

See, two of my friends own early-90 Explorer's, and them having little mechanical knowledge, I get the request to work on thier trucks.. so this will be my first foray into the domestic side of life.... Hopefully I am still welcome here

My first question: Have a CEL on the '93 Explorer (OBD1), now, on Honda's, you can add a jumper to a plug under the dashboard and the CEL will flash out a code, you look up the code, and you have whats causing the CEL. Are Ford's the same??

I've looked all over the net and cannot find a list of CEL codes for Fords.... are all OBD1 codes the same? (between Honda/Dodge/Ford/etc) And also, can you pull the ECM code from a Ford without buying a 'code scanner' ??

They've also EEC codes there too...and yes, you can use a jumper to get the cel to flash the code - don't know how as i've got a 2nd gen, but it's somewhere on here.

Didn't actually go to the thread, but doing a search for "paper clip" (b/c it is what people generally use) found it.
