Solved!
OK. Got the problem solved. The issue was in the transmission that was rebuilt last year. Not sure which happend first, but basically a solinoid (sp?) was bad, and the wiring harness that went to it was also bad. Replaced both of those, and voila
its now working great. (knock on wood).
