Does anyone know what the warranty is on the edelbrocks shocks? the rear shocks are 2 1/2 years old and they are shot. the boot is worn thru and the grease is all over the outside of the boot. and the ride is much harsher then normal. i cringe every time a hit a decent size crack in the road. I think i remember they had some kind of lifetime warrenty but dont remember. Anyone have any experiance with them? Do i call the place i bought them at (performance products) or edelbrock dirrectly? thanks in advance.

I think Robert had the same problem with his and when he tried to warranty them...........they told him that the damage was caused by "normal wear" and they wouldn't warranty them.

I will look to see if I can find the thread..........

Yup, when I spoke to Edelbrock they provided me with the link to their "Lifetime Warranty". Their lifetime warranty only covers defects for the life of the shock. Wearing out is not considered a defect so they wouldn't warrant my shocks. The Tech. couldn't tell me what they would use to determine that a seal just wore out allowing the gas to escape or if there was a defect. All he would say was that it was up to the person inspecting them. They gave me two choices. I could either send in my shocks and if they were found to have had a defect, they would send me replacements under warranty. This didn't address the issue of driving around for two weeks without shocks while I waited for Edelbrock's decision. The second choice he gave me was buying four new shocks and then sending my old ones in. If they found them to be defective, they would issue me a refund check for the new shocks. This wasn't acceptable either since if they determined that the shocks weren't defective, I would have been out another $300 for shocks that only lasted two years. The Tech. wasn't counting on a third option, which in my case was to just go down to Napa and buy four Monroe Reflex shocks for $150. They feel every bit as nice as my Edlebrocks did when they were new and only cost half as much. They also use a similar valve as the IAS shocks. If they only last two years, I came out ahead.

Here is Edelbrock's shock warranty statement:

"Edelbrock IAS® Strut & Shock Absorber Limited Lifetime Warranty

Edelbrock Corporation guarantees for a limited lifetime each new Edelbrock IAS Strut & Shock Absorber to be free from factory defects (except for finish and shock boot) from date of purchase, provided that the product is properly installed, subjected to normal use and service and that the product is not modified or changed in any way, negligence by customer or installer, or used for racing or competition purposes. Should a part become defective, it should be returned to the original selling dealer or shipped freight prepaid to Edelbrock Corporation. It must be accompanied with the sales receipt and a clear description of the problem. This warranty is void on shocks used in racing applications except for known, proven defects in material or workmanship.
Edelbrock Corporation reserves the right to replace or repair the defective part and return said part freight prepaid. This warranty covers the replacement or repair of the product only and does not cover the cost of removal and installation.

Damage or defects resulting from collision, improper installation, off-road use, road hazards or racing, are not covered by this warranty. The warranty for Edelbrock IAS Struts & Shock Absorbers extends only to the original purchaser only for the lifetime of the original vehicle in which it is installed."

Edelbrock = Overpriced Crap

You know what's really interesting Robert? I had an o-ring go on an Edelbrock IAS that was maybe 2 months old (this was in 2000). So, I attempted to warranty it out. I remember talking to someone named "David" at Edelbrock just like you did...and to make a long story short they wouldn't honor the warranty. I kept getting the run-around. I ended up having to *pay* for another shock from the place I bought them (Martel Bros.). That was 3 years ago. I wouldn't stand for that now. At any rate Edelbrock is on my "no buy" list now for sure. Edelbrock...well let me just say that you can put a cowpie on a silver platter but it's still a cowpie.

I just got off the phone with performance products. They told me all i have to do is send the shocks back to them and as soon as they get them they will send out a new pair. wooohooo. Now the question is how hard is it to remove the rear shocks. i had a shop put them in but i dont want to pay someone to take them out. I looked at them and it doesnt look to difficult. any tricks or things i should look out for? thanks

Question is- what would you put there until the replacement arrive?

i will borrow my parents new caddy cts they have another car so they let me use it when i need to. :D
BTY it's an awesome mobile. So im not really at a loss not having my X.

Update: I just recieved 2 brand new shocks from performance products. No questions asked. Woohoo.
I'll be instaliing them this weekend and finally be able to drive my X again.:bounce:

I hate the edlebrocks, my truck had them in the front when I bought them, both blown out, and Rancho 9000s in the back. Rancho has a lifetime warrenty against the shock wearing out. Only thing they don't cover is trail damage. ie bashing on rocks, so Rancho is what I run

You are lucky that Performance Products is a better vendor than is Martel Brothers Performance. Martel made me pay for the replacement shock. I haven't done business with them since (that was 3 yrs ago).

That's why I bought mine at Explorer Express. John V.'s reassuring words were "your in good hands with EE" or something like that. :)

Unfortunately, the place I bought my Edelbrocks from isn't around anymore so I had no choice but to go to Edlebrock directly.
