egr tube removal

does anyone have any ideas on how to loosen upi the egr tube that goes to the exhaust manifold on the driver side? i cant loosen the lock fitting because there is not room for leverage.

im replacing a blown head gasket on a 97 ohv and that damn tube wont budge.

any one have any ideas?? couldnt find it in a search

You probably did this already but for the next guy reading, the way to do it is through the wheel well. Jack up the car , the take off the wheel, take of the plastic shield thingy that is held on with the plastic clips and finally use a large combination wrench, they work the best for this as the nut it is a large hex, you must put the wrench in a place that will give you a 1/8 turn, the first few turns will only be 1/8 turns, then after it will come by hand. Took me hours the first time, 2 minutes the second time once you have the tool and method.
 






Also....heat helps too. Without heat you risk destroying the tube.
 






Hey EB , maybe you know this, I loosened the manifold on my 96 and I can't find a gasket, do you know of any models that don't have a manifold gasket or is my burned on there and I just can't see it ?
