Lets start by saying hello, im brand new to the these forums and so far they have been great. Saved 700 bucks by finding out how to replace the hub bearing on my POS explorer by myself... thanks

Anyway i have a little problem. All four windows on my explorer will not go up. I have checked all the fuses and te relay switch... they are good. The lights on the window switchs work but the windows wont go up.. also the interior lights dont go on and the 4X4 light on the cluster flashes every once in awhile.

The last time that they worked i was messing around behind the radio. I was thinking of putting a new radio in and trying to replace the AC temp switch because that doesnt work either. Anyone know what it might be.

Right now its becoming very cold in NJ and its not enjoyable to drive to work in the frigid weather

can u tell me where that would be, ill google it in the meantime.

And thanks

Thanks im going to print it and read it when i get our of class tonight..

When you say "check" the GEM, what are u saying? replace it? also i was told about a plug under the truck that is near the transmission. I was told if I disconnect it for 6-7 mins the reconnect it, it should reset something and this stuff should work.

Im still cold lol

I suspect that your windows won't go up or down....right? cause they are already down so you can't check that. IF that is indeed the case, then you most likely have a problem with your accessory delay relay and / or the circuit feeding it or its contacts.... check them with a meter.

Hello! I know you said you checked the fuses but I just want to recommend checking them again. On my buddy Wolf762's Explorer he used to remove a fuse all the time because one of the sensors that tells the interior lights to turn off was busted. On this particular fuse he used to remove: the interior lights AND the windows would cease functioning, and this sounds very similar to your issue.
Also a temporary solution could be just taking off the door panels and pushing the windows up :D

I have checked all the switches with a meter and replaced fuses a few times. I have tried to push the windows up with no luck. The thing that has me and two friends ( a mechanic and a electronic engineer) scratching our heads is the 4x4 lights and the interior lights as well as the windows not gouing up. We also tried to jump the switch. The motors sounded like they wanted to go up but not enough power or the wrong type of power i guess.

I still haven't had any luck isolating where the problem is. If anyone even has a suggestion of what to check/places to look I would greatly appreciate it. My tiny little nuts can't take much more of this cold! TIA!

check your grounds... and as suggested earlier check your accessory delay relay.

Check fuses 5 and 7 in the underhood distribution box. Check the Accessory Delay Relay. With the ignition switch off, try unplugging the electrical connectors from the GEM. Leave them off for awhile to allow the GEM to reset. Check the ground under the driver door panel near the PW switches.

Okay will check them all tomorrow. Im geussing the GEM is the little grey box behind my radio or the bigger black box?!

The GEM is a mid to large size module, usually black and yours should have 4 electrical connectors plugged into it.

Its unlikely to be a gem issue... as it really doesn't do alot with windows other than the autofunction on the driver's side. Further, your button lights on all control buttons at all doors light???? If so, then grounds are unlikely to be your problem. Still further, your "jumping" doesn't sound good... so move closer and apply your power / ground directly to the motor... at least then you should be able to close each and every window. Having said that can you please describe how you did your "jump"????

My friend did it. he put a wire on the battery and ran it to the window switch. The motor made a little noise but sounded like it wasn't getting enough juice. no mind u its all four windows so i doubt its a motor. The chances of all of them going at the same time is unlikely.

also i unplugged the connectors to the gem for a good 40 mins and re connected them.. Nothing.

well... as mentioned, if you want your windows up... go directly to the source... the motor... get a battery charger or remove / move your battery to your door area and then run a power wire and ground to the motor... not the switch.... and at least, get your windows up. If that doesn't work, you have either a dead motor at that point or a severely stuck window mechanism.

Alright, have to wait till next weekend to do anymore work to it.. ill see if i can get that to work
