Hey all!

This is somewhat funny.. My explorer has been making this god awful rattling noise for the past 3000 miles. It was so loud when I pulled up next to a car I felt stupid cause my car was rattling like a poor person who never kept care of their vehicle. I researched and researched and found out others have had a torque converter problem and they had the infamous rattling noise. I though yes! That's the problem! So I took it to a transmission shop and told them its the torque converter please fix this before I lose my mind. They looked at it and a couple hours later they called me and said sir your torque converter is fine and your transmission is fine.. It's your pipes from your exhaust rattling a bolt by your differential. I thought no way y'all are full of crap and went up there. Sure enough it's the pipe rattling. So the good news is that I'm gonna save a crapload and also get a new exhaust system!! Yay what a good excuse :) getting a new muffler and pipes rerouted tomorrow! Can't wait to get rid of this rattling noise sounds like ten thousands rattle snakes on steroids drumming on metal lol. Ill update for sure if the noise goes away!

Glad for you it wasn't the TC, although you would have found the rattle 3K ago by getting underneath and inspecting.

I did and since the exhaust was rattling a bolt from the transmission casing I assumed it was coming from it so I was sure it was the TC

you also could probably fix it with a crowbar, by just bending the exhaust over a bit.

Got My new flowmaster and pipes re-routed this morning, no more rattling and sounds good for v6!
