Ok so i did a rear brake and rotor job on the ex yesterday and upon taking the drivers side rear wheel off i noticed that the cable for just that wheel was totally broke in half. The line was rusty and was so brittle it broke in my hand. I was looking for a thread on how to change them but no luck. has anyone done this job before, also has anyone changed these brakepads before that needs to be done also...thanks for any info

one more question> I was also looking at my rear axle and i noticed that there was a nipple where it looks to be where a rubber hose was attached to, can anyone tell me what that does and if i need to reattach this lie and where it goes. i tried to look for where the other end would go into but i had no luck if you need picks i will upload them thanks again for the help

I did al that just last week.... The question is: How much work do you want to do?

Chenging the shoes isn't terribly difficult, but getting access to them is. The axle shaft is completely in the way. I've done it before with the axles in-place... Never again. When I did it last week, I pulled the axles (and it's a good thing, because I found they were just starting to go bad too).

For the cable itself, you'll need to separate the cables at the equalizer. Not fun. First, reach up under the truck and pull the cable from the pedal to gain some slack. Insert a 4mm pin in the hole in the pedal assembly to maintain the slack on the cable. Then, separate the cables at the equalizer as needed. That bracket is a pain in the arse, but not impossible. Install the new one in its place. IIRC, it was about $14 for the driver's side and $30 for the passenger side from AutoZone.

Ok so its gunna take me dropping the rearend to change the shoes for the emergency brake so i guess i have to attack them from behind the drum. The other thing is the cable that goes from the equilizer to the drum isn't exposed it's wrapped in plastic coating should I just go for the regular line or do you know if someone sells the wrapped line ready to go and install. Thanks for the help, much appreciated

You don't have to drop the axle... It's *helpful* if you remove the axle shafts, but again, not impossible if you don't.

That cable should be in a sheath. As I mentioned, AutoZone had it for $13. Any of the major parts chains should be able to order it, though it may take a couple days to get.

{just thinking.... I got mine at Advance.... Autozone was going to take a week to get it}

The whole thing is ready to go... Hook the end on the parking brake, stick the other end in the equalizer, and connect the cable. I had to use a clamp on the arm to actuate the lever on the brakes to gain enough slack to reconnect the cable.... Your results may vary. In hindsight, if you install the cable before you reassemble the parking brake shoes, the cable installation should be much easier.
