My Ebrake Cable Snapped!

it broke on the inside of the cab. went to puck and pull and pulled one off of a 93 or a 92 and its wrong now the only way i can figure out on how to take the cable off of the pedal was to bend the **** out of that little hook flap holding it in. now im hoping theres an easier way to do this? cause ive already taken the pedal out and half of the cable apart...plz help

This is from the Ford DSM. Pictures are attached showing removal, then installation instructions. Also a schematic of the pedal. Hope this helps. If you need instructions/diagrams for other parts of the P-brake system let me know.
