Emergency Lights

The Impala!

That would be a crime in and of itself to seize an Impala! Almost all officers use proper discretion... If they just started hauling all vehicles that had violations, it would never end. The Impala is something special though, and it doesn't sound like your buddy is gross violator either. However, there are some items that would be cause for alarm depending on the vehicle. What year Impala?

(It also depends on if the car is a mark, meaning for the most part the authorities in your area are familiar with the vehicle..

JMan689, Whats your buddies name, Lucky?

anyone know the Connecticut regulations? because I have a white/amber strobe bar in my rear hatch window and amber strobes and amber grill strobes in the front of my truck for for when I had the plow on and just for my own safety because we all know people don't even acknowledge the regular hazards anymore.

Hi there! Do you still plow? And is it for pay, volunteer, etc...? Thanks!

yeh i've read those before and i only used the strobes when i plowed, but then i sold it and the mount and all that crap, and the only time i use it now is for work and if i pull over on the side of the road, my buddy who's a cop said that they arent really gonna check depending on what color lights they are, i have all amber in the front, and from what i've been told that is legal, WITH the Flashing Lights Permit, which i dont have lol, but he also said that if there white in rear than that's fine, so im not really sure what is legal anymore haha

If you get the Flashing Lights Permit, problem solved? I would hope your friend is the only cop that ever pulls you over :) I'm not the lighting guru, but there are quite a few members here that can probably tell you how to have both amber and stock lighting at the same time w/strobe (with the FLP).

i'll make a video of the rear strobe bar i made, it's pretty sick, i'll get a link up as soon as i can

......lighting laws are different in every state, but there are some commonalities. For instance, you can't be legally be cited for having yellow flashers to the front, or clear or red or yellow flashers to the rear. Most vehicles have these capabilities stock. In other words, if they ticket you for amber to the front, they better be ticketing every vehicle with amber hazard flashers, because it is the same thing.

What they can do, is regulate certain colors, and color combinations, and locations of the lighting.

In tennessee, for instance, unless you are an authorized emergency vehicle, or a plow, or a highway utility vehicle, or a mail truck or school bus, you can't have auxillary flashing lamps in the factory headlamp, taillamp, grille, or back up lamp locations. You can't have flashing blue in combination with white or red in any direction. You can't have flashing white or red to the front. Nothing is said about green, or purple or yellow.

I keep up with this kind of stuff, and rarely, if ever, is a vehicle impounded. First off, most of the time you have to be doing something stupid to get noticed. Then, you probably will get cited for criminal impersonation if your equipment is in violation of state law.

Far as Ford installing emergency equipment, they sure do. Look up the Police Visibility 65W package. Far as special stuff for an explorer, all they offer is "VSO OPTIONS

Special Service Package (UPJ)
• Heavy-Duty Battery (750CCA)

• Ground Straps

• Roof Wiring Prep Package

• Special Service/Fleet Manual

"

woo hoo, a special manual.

Anyway, dude, you need to decide what the purpose of the lights are for. "Just because" is different than for vollie response is different than fleet vehicles. Once you determine what you want to do, telling you what you can get and do becomes much easier...

I guess I should have answered the OP's question:
I'm wondering if they have any lighting differences besides the bar lights and strobes inside the headlights.

Not really. I know a LOT of people who use bar power supplies to make up systems for inside the car. OTOH, it's rare to see a car p/s inside a light bar, but I've seen it. You need to try not to mix and match power supplies and heads. For instance, a Tomar p/s will NOT run a Whelen head. Or, it will set it on fire (older p/s)...

yeah dude my buddy said that it doesn't really matter unless your doing something really stupid with them on the streets lol

Do you have a pic of it close u or anything? I'm slowly gathering the stuff to make something like that, and I'm looking for ideas.

Thanks!
