2000 ford explorer XLT
Hello. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT that is having problems accelerating. I was working fine until I got going up a hill and it kept bogging down and I was putting the pedal all the way to the carpet. I have been putting WD40 on around the coil packs cuz this has worked in the past but this time it didn't at all. What could be wrong and what is the proper way of fixing this???

Sounds like a fuel flow/pressure problem. Under high demand, the engine is loosing fuel pressure.

Could be as simple as the filter or perhaps with the fuel pump/regulator assembly in the tank.

I think SOHK is right. I have a 96 4.0 and started to miss, put new plugs, cleaneed air filter K&N, cleaned Mass air sensor, all to no avail. Talked to a friend ( 30 Year mech ). He felt after 316,000 miles it was probably the cat. Took cat off and did a preasure blow thru cat and muffler, smae out as coming in. Didnt think it was the fuel pump since was replaced at 180,000. Did another OBDII test and came up with system lean, and right bank lean, so Am going to replace the filter first and then do the pump in the tank again. Sure hope the filter is it tho...................Cherokee.................

When you do the pump, make sure you replace the fuel hose in there also. The short hoses do break down and leak fuel, causing low fuel pressure.
