I just bought an 02 explorer a few months ago. It made this noise on test drive, but I got a good deal on it and it didn't sound serious. But it bugs me.
Basically the engine buzzes (sounds like an interior door/instrument cluster alarm on an old car) when the truck shifts into fifth gear at around 30-35 mph. That is the speed of the road near my house where the truck is driven the most, so that's where we notice it the most. If I let off the gas or give it more gas it goes away and sometimes it comes back immediately and sometimes not.
After searching the forum I think it's the idle air control valve (or something like that), but I'm not sure because I have never heard the noise at idle.
Any suggestions?
