The Explorer is a 1997 with the 4.0L(X) automatic transmission and part time 4 wheel drive.

Up until today the vehicle has been running fine. Today the engine started cutting out at 1800 RPM(according to the Tach). It does it whether it is in park or actually driving it. My first thought is a fuel filter and will replace it as soon as the wife gets home. But I want other options just in case that doesn't fix it.

Thanks,

Edit: In case this has already been covered. Just point me to it.

Well at least it isn't a plugged fuel filter. Just replaced it. I am open to suggestions on what it could be or what to check. Still need to check the fuel pressure and see if it is falling off.

Edit: Well we just checked the fuel pressure and it is 30 PSI. That is the low end of the pressure scale according to the Chilton Manual.
Pulled the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and the pressure jumped up to 40 PSI. Still within the range according to the Manual.
