When I first start the engine in the morning(or after a day of work), it goes to 2000 rpm an then dye.Restart the engine and run's fine. I ``DID`` clean the MAF sensor, air filter, intake manifold and other air/gas mix related component. What could it be, I need to change plugs and wires. Also need to change head gasket. Just want to know where to look for.

B,

You may want to try this before starting. Turn the key to the ON position, let all the warning lights come on, wait a couple of more seconds and then start. This procedure supposedly pressures up the fuel system and allows easier start ups. With the warmer weather, the formulation of gasoline may have changed also which may be having an effect. Hope this helps.

I already let the system pressurize before starting, and yet it does not make any difference. I want to try changing gas station to see if quality of fuel is in cause.

Ford has a TSB out for this problem. I don't know the number, but the TSB states that a stall on initial startup after long soak (sitting more than 4 hours) can be eliminated by replacing the computer with a rebuilt or updated new($$$) replacement from Ford. My '92 has done this for three years and I have never replaced the computer. It doesn't hurt the vehicle (it does put stress on the starter and battery) it is only an annoyance. If you can live with it save the money, if not I recomend giong with a rebuilt computer. You can purchace one from any local auto parts store.

It may be your idle air control, wiring connectors attached to the alternator bracket, or the ground cable attached to the lower passanger side of the motor(can see through the wheel well by the exhaust.).The same junk has been killing mine for the past three weeks. idle air migt be the problem but more likely it is the wiring. idle air control, throttle position sensor and the intake temp sensor are all on the same wiring harness and ground try cleaning and dilectric grease on the connector and cleaning the ground, if it does'nt work try an idle air controll(motor). Check back and tell me how it goes

If it is the computer, sould I go for some kind of super chip, instead of getting Ford's rebuilt/non-performance computer. I would like some feeling's, on that from the Explorer community.
