- 2013 Ford Explorer XLT
I recently received an e-mail from the dealer I bought my '13 XLT from stating the following.."Reminding you that it is time for your ANNUAL ENGINE FLUSH. This service is required to keep your lifetime Engine Guarantee in effect, and will keep your vehicle performing at its optimum level." I had no idea what they were talking about, but after researching in on the web, I believe it's where they put some kind of additive to your oil, run it for a short time, and then drain the oil to clean the enging of any gunk or foreign material that may have accumulated there.
When I asked the dealer that fixed my "fuel module" recall, she didn't know anything about this, and we both decided it must be a "dealer" thing and not a Ford thing. I have had my car serviced three times since I bought it last Sept., always at a Ford dealer, and using only the Ford specified oil and filter.
Now they're telling me I might have some junk in my engine that needs to be cleaned out after only 16K? That's crazy!!!
Has anyone on here ever heard of this practice? I didn't inquire about the charge because I don't intend to have it done anyway, but can anyone verify that this is not a Ford requirement, and that it is some kind of promotion from the dealer?
