Engine Harness: Connectors dont Match

I havent seen anything on the forum about this...but I just had an engine swap about last week. Went from 02 Explorer 4.6L to 03 Mounty 4.6L. Added explorer harness to the new engine but 1 connection doesnt fit. It looks like both connectors have the same color wires.

Wondering if i can splice into the wires behind each connector (but not cutting the connectors) and manually connect the wires (basically like bypassing the connector), solder and black tape it?

Will post pic in about 20 mins.
