engine keeps cuttin off

whats up guys? this is a non-explorer related post but im runnin outta options here...im goin w/ my friend to pick up his new trail rig tomorrow and its got a small engine problem but i dont think its major....when we cranked it yesterday it would turn over and fire up but then it sounded like it would stall out. The owner said it has been sittin in his driveway stationary for over 2 months has like no gas in it and is on an incline....so here are what I THINK is wrong w/ it, is it just the old gas and once it cycles through the old stale gas it'll be fine??? or is it like 1 of my mechanics said and its a combonation of gas and it needing a distributor cap and rotor? gimme your opinions b/c i'd love to get this thing running this week.....by the way its a 87 4Runner w/ a turbo charged 4banger

Check for an exaust leak or something like a MAS unplugged. It wouldn't even start at all if the gas was bad enough.

Don't rule out the gas. I let an Oldsmbile sit for 3 months and it really crappy for the first 2 tanks.
