Long story short i'm having a major leak coming out of whatever this part may be called. I have an hour until the Auto part stores around me close, so if i'm able to get the part i'd like to do that ASAP. My lady is a 1993 Ford Explorer.

Thats the oil pressure sending unit.

Yes, oil pressure switch is the se thing. That is actually a more accurate description. Stock, the oil pressure gauge is just an analog idiot loght. Once there is 5psi of oil pressure the oil pressure switch closes. The gauge has a 20 ohm resister on the ack which somewhat centers the needle on the gauge.

There is a thread in the useful thread sub forum about making the gauge mobe with the change in oil pressure. In short you get a real sending unit from an older ford and short out the 20 ohm resister.

I went this morning to get the part, put it in, and no more leakage. I appreciate your help Maniack. But I swear, I have a easier time replacing my fuel filter then switching out that pressure unit.

I found the thread, but i wish it was more clear on what exactly you need to buy and do, i read through all seven pages, and ended up thinking i figured out the plan three times because the method, or part you need to buy kept changing with everyone's opinion. If i ever get around to doing that i'll make a promise to make a step-by-step with pictures to help out.

Yea, finding the right "part #" is fun.

What I found that works is to just tell them its for a late 70's Ford truck with a 300 inline 6. The part that comes up works. This works much better if you go to a real parts store and not somewhere that just types stuff into the computer. A real parts house won't even look it up.. They will know which sending unit is the correct one.
