I know the engine running wierd is the least of my X problems but....

The engine idles fine. In Park it will only rev up to 4000 RPM. But only if the throttle is feathered. If at anytime I gun the throttle it will instantly sputter and will return to idle. The vehicle will not take anymore input from that point on unless I feather the throttle again.

What could this be?

Since you rolled it, you could have dislodged some crap from the bottom of your fuel tank when it went over, which may be blocking up the fuel filter up. It could also be the FPR.

I know that when my '92 rolled (It sat on it's side for about 1.5 hours) , we had some funky stuff happen. We had oil drain from the motor into the air filter and MAF that caused it to run really crappy (no power, hesitation, stalling.) I pulled the air filter out, cleaned out the MAF, and cleaned out the air intake tube, and that helped. Then I let it run for about an hour at idle, and that seemed to clean out the rest of the crap (oil in the plugs, intake, etc). After that, the motor ran fine. I also had a bunch of mysterious computer codes that vanished when I reset the computer.

hmmmm...mine was only on its roof for 10 minutes or so....good point though....if the engine is low on oil could that cuase my problem? i know it is low becuase my oil light just came on.....

update... problem still exists.... but in 4x4 lo range it does it less... i still have to feather it but it takes off good and doesnt shift until 4500 or so.....

I'm confused. Is this problem only in P, or in all gears? If it's only in P, then it's probably due to the park rev-limiter. If in all gears, it might be one of those goose-chases....sorry.

it never did that before in park...... but it does now... and it does it in all the gears....

Sounds to me like lack of fuel.
So I would think regulater, filter, pump or something I didnt mention but ment to.

BUMP.....i am almost ready to order the jeep winshield and borrow friends welder and die grinder.... i need to fix the engine problem now... help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim, I assume you are bumping because it isnt a fuel starvation problem. Your pressure checks out OK?

how do i check the pressure?

With a pressure gauge made for the task. There is a Schrader valve you tap into.

if anyone has more ideas..please feel free to spit them out... i will be doing a few things in the next few days...

cleaning maf, plugs, wires, coil, injector flush, and fuel filter....is this a good place to start?

Have you scanned for any codes? If not, I would do that next. Also be sure to check the FP.

Good luck....

dont have a scanner.... no cel is present

Kinda hard to do a proper diagnosis w/o the proper tools.

Aldive - If no CEL, then there will be no codes.......

Might be the throttle position sensor, if the fuel pressure tests ok. There is a guage you attach to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Have someone read the gauge while you rev the engine. Search for Fuel Pressure and you should find info on the correct pressure, since I don't know it offhand

Not always true; there can be malfunctions with the CEL and it not iluminate and there can be codes. Been there done that....

it has old codes still in it

went and bought fuel filter & plugs (bosch double platinum)

trying to locate plug wires and also a new coil

will install hopefully soon
