Does an explorer 1992 4.0 have roller lifters, who makes replacement perfomance stuff for cams, and valvetrain products? I know that comp cams make a nifty little cam, but only offer the cam by itself. Where can i get roller rockers, or can i even get them.

what about,,,

if your not changing the cam,, and just the lifters? or do you have to change the cam if you put in brand new lifters?

If the cam is in good shape (undamaged by failure of old roller lifter), you can just prime the new lifters with engine oil and install.

However, if the engine is already torn down to that point, I would be sorely tempted to slip a new camshaft and timing chain in there. No special "break-in" procedure is needed with roller lifters, y'know.

Actually, I'm 99% sure that with roller lifters, if you swap a roller cam you don't need fresh lifters (I know this is true for 5.0's, and if you've ever been on the phone with Comp Cams and been put on hold, it is one of the questions they go over in the Q&A holding message, trust me)... It's true with flat tappet cams that when you get a new cam you have to get new lifters b/c of the wear pattern on the surface of the lifter, but rollers don't "break in" like flat tappets. You don't need a new cam with fresh lifters, but I couldn't bring myself just to swap lifters without putting in a fresh stick.
