engine rattle

hello i have a 2000 explorer with a 4.0 sohc engine ,its got this rattle in the engine ,i have had it back to ford for the recall on the timming chain tentioner and that didnt help hope someone can help me .

still driving it , it hasnt gotten any worse. i think its carbin build up (maybe)

did they fix it or just give you the run around?

no they said they did the recall but it didnt help with the rattle.

yeah, hopefully yours is carbon build up, and mine is the power steering pump like the mechanic says, but I doubt it.

Mine does the same ive got a 2000 sohc 4.0 as well. At idle it does it and if i give it some gas in or out of gear it goes away. Its not a very friendly sound either

Hi guys, just happened to notice those of you in the US with the SOHC engine have the same problems as us in the UK. We have had a lot of discussion recently on our section of the forum if it helps.
