My engine seems to always be running really cold. So much that I though the coolant temp sensor was broken. I replaced the sensor and I had to let it run for a good 20 minutes before I saw the needle move at all. When the truck is moving the gauge still shows that the engine is almost completely cold.

I thought well maybe the gauge is broken, or there is a short in the wire or something that is prohibiting the signal from getting to the gauge. But the thing is that the coolant level in the reservoir tank barley rose at all after I let the truck run for 20 min.

So Im thinking maybe the thermostat is stuck open? But even so I would still think it would heat up eventually. I drove it on the highway for 30 minutes today and the gauge still shows it is running cold.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

Mine had the same thing happen.

Thermostat fixed it.

Im still pretty new with explorers, the thermostat is right on the front of the motor right?

Hi my 96 Explorer is doing the same thing. The thing that has motivated is the heat blows cold and winter is setting in here in Chicago. I'm curious if there are more than one thermostat available. Cold weather specific?
