Ok so when Im idling in my 01 sport the whole car seems to shake a little bit. Ive been in other explorers and this doesnt happen so Im trying to figure out why. I popped the hood when I was in park and saw the entire engine shaking. Not a little shudder kinda shake but a heavy vibration kinda shake. Could the engine not be bolted in tight enough or could the drive belt not be tight enough on the pulleys? Any ideas? Thanks.

Hmm I'm not a mechanic but something definetely sounds loose. You might check your engine mounts to be sure there in good working order. I dont think the belt would make the engine actually "shake". If it had a skip in it or if it wasnt running smooth that might cause a shudder maybe. Just some stuff to think about. Your in the right place though these guys really know whats up with Fords.

Sounds like you've just got a miss, have you ever tuned it up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc)?

I'd start there before I looked at big expensive ones, but then again, without seeing it, I wouldn't know how your "bad shake" is compared to my definition of a "bad shake".

Before the plugs, you may want to look into a Seafoam treatment (search the boards, you'll find it).

check plugs and gaps then go towards the upper and lower intake gaskets 00m12 fix.

sounds like a miss in the engine it would be hard for me to believe you have a lose or broken motor mount.

So my best first move would be to replace the plugs and wires and then go from there? I know what Im doing tomorrow afternoon then... Thanks.

To reiterate, it's most likely a miss and by looking at the plugs you should be able to pinpoint which cylinder. It could be a lot of things (some easy to fix and others not quite as easy) when you get the plugs out post some pics and we'll help you out.

Will do. I just need to find the time now. My parents are having a field day with me because I'm going to college next year at OSU and haven't done any of the stuff I was supposed to do to get myself ready. So it might take a few days...

haha i hear ya, im going to northeastern and my parents try to get me to do everything i possibly can. I can only wait for when i come down to visit next year, they're probably going to have a 20 page list of stuff lol

I've had that problem before, as the other guys mentioned here it sounds like a miss fire. i was running on two shot ones number 1 and 3 from the passenger side, good thing i replaced them cause if i didn't i'd have a very expensive bill on my hand, the mounts etc. i replaced them myself and so far no problems, crosses fingers haha, mind you they were still running on stock plugs from the factory haha 134,000 miles so far when replaced it was 125,600 miles.

i still get shakes but that's just cause of tire pressures.
