Hi your guys...here is a good question....one of my friend has a 95 Ex that as been sitting for at least 2 yrs...he was gonna call the scarp yard to come and get it for scrap !! so I offered him the same price ! 100$ !!!!

but its been sitting there for at least 2 years...break seems to be jammed wheel don t turn anymore...engine does not crank ( but I think the starter is gone) I want to put it back on the road during this coming summer...

What should I do ? where do I start ?

After 2 years of sitting up in Canada, most of the systems probably have at least some rust in their inner workings. Honestly I'd use it/sell it for parts. I believe the time, $$$, and effort aren't worth trying to get everything in working order.

Alec men where s you Ex ????

Ok I know that it will be a big job But I think it worth it ...no ?

Depends on how bad the damage is.

The motor may be fine, but most likely the bottom end is sludged and the top end is rusted.

The brakes most likely need at least new calipers and the components need to be cleaned and the system flushed.

The steering may be whacked, too.

The tranny, tcase, and diffs are probably sludged and at least need to be taken apart and rebuilt, maybe need new parts too.

I could be overly pessimistic, but then again this could be a very fair assessment.

mmmm ok you have me doubt I did a good thing..

Anybody as done that before.. ? anybody else on the forum that as had that experience ?

Start with the engine. Put a wrench on the idler pulley and see if you can turn it clockwise. Make sure you can do at least two revolutions. If it doesn't want to turn there is more to the story you haven't been told. I tend to believe that if you have to ask this question, you are not ready for this project.

well definitly the first time I will do this kind of project...but I think I am able to put this project to a positive conclusion..

my friend has a k5 that we resurrected after about teh same amount of tine the tranny is a little wacked and the brakes rusted but that is it

Thanks Billy that s the kind of statement I needed to do my project..

what a K5 ?

also for 100 bucks it is definatly a deal even if you can't get it to run you could easily make money off of it

For 100 bucks it isn't a bad deal as long as your mechanically inclined. Worse thing that happens is you find out things are messed up on it or it requires so much work to get it going it's not worth keeping. You can always sell it to the same scrap yard for 100 bucks if it doesnt work out.

exactly !!! yes you are right ! so where should I start...get the engine started ? drop the oil first ? any suggestions..

Use the tip above, see if the motor will rotate. You can usually do this by ratcheting the crank pulley.

I agree that if you have the time you could try to fix it. However, don't be disappointed if you can't.

first off chances are you are gonna need a battery to use. then i would put new elcheapo oil in. you may wanna pull the plugs out and spray some wd40 in there but the plugs are a pita and i dont think that it is absoulutly necessary then try cranking the engine,go from there for now and see what happens

all right then.. I will try to tow it this week ..and I will keep you all to date on this project.

thank all

if it is possibile to tow it by the gas station to fill it up with fresh gas i think that would help

Oh yes definitly...new gas new oil..and if I can get the engin to start I will change the transmission oil and after that got to change the break cause the are jammed....the wheels don t turn no more !

keep the suggestion coming please..

tx

Whywas it sitting for 2 years? was there something wrong with it? If there is gas in there now i'd definantly siphon it out and put new gas with some fuel additive to help clean out the fuel system. check and change all the fluids, check the plugs and wires, connectors etc, definantly make sure it turns over. I'll let you know if i have any other ideas..

thanks alot !
