Hey There! Here's my story, I have a 99 explorer with the sohc that has 136k, of course the chains were starting to rattle pretty loudly so I found a 06 sohc out of a ranger with 43k on it. after fighting to get the swap completed the moment of truth arrived and when I turned the key I had a nice sounding sohc engine!!

Now the bad!

After topping off the fluids I backed it off the ramps and down the driveway, and proceded down the road, so far so good, I ran it up to 30ish or so accelerating normally and right around 2000RPM (maybe) I felt a rather harsh vibration, harsh enough that most of my interior was rattling, The truck/ motor runs fine otherwise.

I'm stumped as to what this could be, the flexplate seems straight, converter lined up easily when I installed the motor, I've even removed the started and pulled the converter bolts again and turned the motor over with a ratched on the balancer and placed a finger between the block and flexplate ring gear and couldn't detect the flexplate being bent. I'm not positive but it believed I used the flexlate from the original 99 motor.(teeth are a bit rusty on the 06) but I did compare the two when I had them both out and they were identical from what I could tell except one had 2 small holes, maybe 1/8 punched 180 degrees from each other about halfway from the hub to the ring gear. Long story short, they looked to be the same.

I'm ready to pull the trans out to see if I possibly bent the pilot on the converter or maybe get a better look at the flex plate and the mateing surface between the engine trans and converter but I'm hopeing that someone may have an idea.

:(
