Engine swap will not start

I would appreciate it if someone would measure the depth of the SOHC 4.0L shroud. My 5.0L shroud measures about 2.5" from the front of the front to the back of the back. This would be about the simplest fix I can think of.

Another inch would help a lot.

My SOHC V6 fan shroud measures about 3 1/4 inches from front to rear.

That's the answer if the current situation turns out to be a cooling problem! My 5.0 shroud is about 2 1/2". The additional 3/4" could make a lot of difference.

V6 fan shroud axis

I got to thinking that the axis of the V6 radiator cooling fan shroud may be higher or lower than that of the V8. It depends on the V6 vs V8 height of the water pump axis above the frame motor mounts. However, I seem to remember that at least one forum member replaced his stock V6 with a V8 and did not swap the radiators.
 






Doesn't much matter since I had to cut my shroud off to get around the lower radiator support cross member. Also had to take an inch out of the width at the center to match the radiator width. Then put the bottom back on below the cross member.

Had I to do over again, which I probably will at some time, I would cut the lower support back another 2 1/2" to use the entire circumference of the shroud. That would mean that I would have to take an inch out of both the top and bottom.

Think I will pick up a 4.0L shroud soon since so many of this series of Explorers went to China as scrap metal after CFC program.

I am down to only the #1 cylinder not firing. Got spark, got compression, getting little raw gas explosions in the exhaust system. Number 1 header tube reads 140 degrees on an IR thermometer while all the others peg the meter high.

Either the newly rebuilt injector is sticking and letting fuel out or the PCM is not grounding it appropriately. Back shortly with the results.
