Engine swap wont start

Have you had a chance to do the suggested electrical tests?

I dont have the "older" engine or the harness or anything else that goes with it. And what wire harness are you talking about? The one that is actually on the motor? So whats that mean then? I have to hope to god that I can find a '98 at the junk yard and hope that the harness on that motor is good and rip it out? This is starting to become more trouble then its worth.

Yes the harness on the engine. This comes off in one piece and has all the sensor connectors and injector connectors and transmission connectors. As mentioned in another post there is a connection to the tranny to allow start so if this is wrong you won't start.
To replace the harness pretty much everything has to come off the top of the engine as the body of the harness lies along the length of engine under the lower intake.

So when you go to the yards make sure that you have the correct tranny connections and pin outs. Take and print a couple of photos of the connectors on the tranny including the back of them with the colour of wires

Good luck

I have not had a chance to do the electrical testing due to I dont have the equipment for it. I know I could get one at walmart for a few bucks, I just dont think I have the patience for this anymore. I just got off the phone with my local ford dealer and they told me that the part numbers for both the 97 and the 98 harness are different, but they couldnt tell me the differences except that the alternator wire harness... oh... and they both are obsolete, meaning not f'n available. I did check the plug on the tranny and it is nice and tight still. I just dont know where to go from here. Looks like either way, Im spending stupid amounts of money on this POS.

Can anyone please help me on a cross reference? I am told that I need or might need the wire harness of a '98 Xplorer from the motor. I called ford and they cant even seem to cross reference the part to tell me what years that harness is on other vehicles. These people here in FL are idiots. How can you work for a company like that and not be able to do anything? Again... '98 Explorer 4.0 SOHC... Motor harness. Thanks soo much guys. Im slowly loosing all faith and patience in this swap. Im about ready to just call a junk yard and tell them to come get the damn thing.
